Chapter8

Reality Is Built upon the Horizon of Ideals

Because we live in peace,
our thirst for peace grows faint,
we forget how precious peace is,
and, worse still,

we are even trying to cast that peace away.

Once, we too forgot peace,
shunned it,
and trampled it underfoot.

Yet even from a frozen horizon,
streaked with blood,
a green and peaceful earth
always emerges again.

It is because
this reality is built
upon the horizon of ideals.

Certainly, reality can conceal
the ideals beneath it.

But once we lose sight of those ideals,
reality, too, is like
moving through the fog.

No matter how we work the helm of our boat,
if we sail into the fog,
it is all too clear
that we will run aground
on a hidden reef.
